The Fraser Canyon will again have bus service as a new company has been approved to operate.
Adventure Charters and Rentals will soon be running a bus route from Prince George to Surrey, which will go through 70 Mile House, Cache Creek, Lytton and Boston Bar.
Now that the company has a license to operate from the Passenger Transportation Board, owner Janna Gertzen tells NL News she’s hopeful to have buses on the road in about a month.
“So the next process is by April 15th, we will have schedules finalized, posted and advance ticket sales will start rolling. And then we need another date from the government on how soon after that we can actually start operating. So that’s the next piece I’m waiting for.”
Communities through the Fraser Canyon have been without bus service since May 31st of last year when Greyhound cut that route.
Furthermore, the company has also been approved for a second route in the Kamloops area: “we’re going to have a run that comes from Williams Lake into Kamloops, and return, that will also feed off the Prince George to Surrey route. So the Prince George passengers will have the option to transfer in Williams Lake,” Gertzen says.
Cache Creek to Kamloops was another route that Greyhound previously serviced but had not been filled.
“It definitely cut off a lot of people,” Gertzen says, regarding the departure of Greyhound bus service. Williams Lake is a small community, as well as 100 Mile, Lytton, Boston Bar. It cut off a lot of people from access to places like Kamloops, which is a major service centre for somewhere like Williams Lake, where we have to go for doctors appointments and to shop.”
