The City of Kamloops says work will be ramping up this month on a mural for the Lansdowne Parkade project.
Capital projects manager Darren Crundwell says project will be done by late summer or early fall, which will see 85,000 tiles wrapped around the parkade.
“We’ve actually already got the artist on site, his name is Bill Frymire, he’s a local artist. He’s starting to do a bit of work on the inside, so any of the panels that he can start attaching his art – they’re essentially stainless-steel clips – to the web mesh that we put up, he’s starting that on the inside.”
Crundwell says the parkade will remain open while work is happening.
“There may be intermittent closures for access and whatnot, but it will still be open. We’ll be starting the communication to ramp up, with respect to the communication on that project, right away as well. We want to make sure the public’s aware, but also get that image and what’s happening there back out in front of the public. It’s been a little while after a winter off.”
The mural project is worth $166,000 and is part of $1.4 million dollars in upgrades to Lansdowne between 3rd and 4th avenues, which were mostly done last year.
“We have some maintenance work on the parkade that we’ve planned, some membrane surfacing on the top, not really related to the project, we will be doing that. But basically the artist has about 85,000 clips to install on the web mesh, so that’s the project for the foreseeable future.”
