Today is the day we see a number of ICBC changes including capping pain and suffering payouts, a new independent dispute resolution process, and of course yet another rate hike.
Attorney General critic Michael Lee says the changes go too far.
“Looking at the rapid transformation changes that David Eby has made as the Attorney General, I think they have arguably stepped on the rights of individual British Columbians, injured British Columbians, those who are most vulnerable,” he said.
“Expanding the definition of minor injury to include brain injury and concussion when he said that he would not do that. That definition now includes 80% of all injuries that ICBC might face from motor vehicle accidents in this province.”
Lee says the Civil Resolution Tribunal will be problematic with no experience in adjudicating complex accident claims.
The province says the changes are expected to save ICBC more than $1-billion a year.
