Former RCMP Deputy Commissioner Peter German has handed in his phase two money laundering report looking into luxury car sales, horse racing, and real estate.
Attorney General Dave Eby says the report is being vetted.
“He has spoken to law enforcement. He has spoken with various regulators. He has got a very comprehensive report. The report that I received from Dr. German is more than 300 pages. It covers horse racing, the luxury car industry, and real estate in some details. What we are doing right now is we are taking that report and making sure that a public release wouldn’t compromise any active law enforcement investigations, and that we are not unfairly impugning the reputation of any individual, and that we are giving them a chance to respond if they are named.”
Eby says the report will be released later this spring.
“It is my expectation that we will be releasing this in phases. The horse racing and luxury car segments we will be able to release those sooner. The real estate piece might take a little bit longer. Certainly there is a lot of content for British Columbians. There is a lot to be concerned about. There is a lot of work for government ahead.”
As for the timeline on making a decision on a public inquiry.
“These reports will be going to cabinet and they will provide key information to the Premier and cabinet as they make a decision about whether or not to go to a public inquiry.”
Also submitted today was a money laundering report done by an expert panel.
