While the warmer weather is more than welcome, there are some very unwelcome visitors that come with it. Ticks are one of those pests that we just have to deal with in this area. One of the more common types is the Wood Tick and can it carry something called Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever
Leah Feist is a Communicable Disease Specialist with Interior Health. She says most tick borne illnesses come with similar symptoms ” It Typically starts with something like fever, muscle pain, aches and probably a bit of a headache. So, if you do know you’ve been bitten by a tick and have a tick sort of imbedded under your skin and if you start to experience any of those symptoms, it would be important to see a physician for treatment.”
She says while Lyme Disease is often associated with ticks, it’s more common in coastal areas of the province and other parts of Canada.
