The Sandman Centre is in the middle of several years of upgrades in the summer of 2019 and beyond.
Over the next few months, the glass and boards around the rink will be replaced at a cost of $960,000.
Civic Facilities Manager Jeff Putnam says that’s not the only upgrade they have planned.
“Food and concessions, the sound system, the exterior look of the building, the roofing,” he said. “We’ll be phasing that in over the next couple of years.”
“We have a total of $2.5 million in a financial plan, but we still have to get more detailed cost estimates going forward on that.”
Putnam noted the $960,000 for this year’s upgrades is over and above the $2.5 million financial plan.
“We’re also doing a business review and opportunity review looking at revenue opportunities within Sandman Centre to see what opportunities may be present,” added Putnam.
The upgrades began with new LED lights that were installed at the arena in the summer of 2018 at a cost of $417,000.
