With city council voting to oppose the removal of land title records from Kamloops, the mayor says the Registrar of Land Titles better get on the phone and talk to local stakeholders.
Ken Christian says the authority to remove the records and doing the right thing are two different things.
Christian says the decision to remove the land title records from Kamloops to Victoria was made without a whisper to anyone in the community.
“I think the biggest thing both for us, the TNRD, and the First Nations is some consultation,” he said. “We really didn’t hear any of this until my office was contacted by a legal firm in relation to this.”
“So that really doesn’t sit well with any political body, when people are messing around in our jurisdiction.”
Christian says the decision may still stand at the end of the day, but at least the community would be informed if they had been consulted, noting right right now everyone is living off the rumour mill.
First Nation Chiefs in the area have called for a stop to any records removal pending consultation.
