
UPDATE – According to DriveBC, Highway 5 just south of Barriere is expected to re-open at 6 p.m. after a rock slide earlier this afternoon. Power to BC Hydro customers in the area was also restored at 3:30 p.m.
ORIGINAL – The Yellowhead Highway is closed in both directions north of Kamloops because of a rock slide.
DriveBC reports the rock slide happened about seven kilometers south of Barriere early this afternoon.
It’s unclear when the highway might re-open and it’s also not known if there were any people hurt from the rock slide.
BC Hydro is also reporting a power outage along the Yellowhead Highway in the area where the rock slide happened, which is affecting 29 customers.
NL News is awaiting details from the Ministry of Transportation.
