The City of Kamloops has applied for a grant that could provide nearly half-a-million dollars to help fix up the Canada Games Pool.
If successful, the provincial grant would provide nearly $458,000 for the project which will cost close to $9.1 million.
“It would help to offset the project costs, and it would also help us to achieve some energy-efficiency opportunities, which would have economic and environmental benefits. Economically, it could help reduce operating costs of the Games Pool over the long term, and environmentally it would help to reduce the facility’s emissions,” sustainability manager Glen Cheetham says.
The upgrades to the pool facility are expected to start next year, which will see the roof and HVAC system replaced as well as other improvements.
Cheetham says the city hopes to find out if the grant is approved later spring.
