With the snow melted, city crews will be turning their attention to various road work projects this spring.
The city’s Streets and Environmental Services Manager Glen Farrow says there are certain areas in town that need more attention.
“You know a few streets that come to mind are Curlew and Rogers Way,” he said. “We’re working on repairs there.”
“Then there’s issues along some of our arterial and collectors that we’ll be focusing on like Gleneagles, Valleyview Drive and Tranquille Road. A lot of energies will be put into that in the coming months.”
He noted they’ll be paying closer attention to arterial roads then collectors then local roads.
“It’s those arterials that take a beating with significantly higher volumes of traffic as well as the type of traffic,” Farrow added. “You know the bus routes, our garbage trucks, large commercial vehicles – they all take a beating on the road.”
He says it’s the same crews who are currently sweeping the streets that tackle various local road repair projects.
“Snow and ice control have shifted to asphalt repair, street sweeping as well as construction for our local road programs,” said Farrow. “It’s a balancing of shifting priorities.”
“It’s that fun time of the year where we’re being pulled in a lot of different directions.”
He noted that the city has taken more of a big picture approach to roads, with numerous patch jobs before crews completely resurface an area.
A number of these projects are laid out in a five year road plan.
For instance, Farrow says there is some sewer work planned on Tranquille Road between 12th and Ridgeview next year, so there won’t be major road repairs in that area in 2019.
