Records are being moved today to Victoria out of the Land Title office in Kamloops.
Staff at the Land Title and Survey Authority told NL this morning that documents which have duplicates actually started being moved out in January.
Staff say documents being moved today also have duplicates, meaning one copy will still be in Kamloops for the time being. However it’s not clear if records being moved today nor ones moved earlier this year were the original or a duplicate.
Interest groups have stated that it is imperative for the original copies of land titles to remain in Kamloops for many reasons. Both the City of Kamloops and the Thompson-Nicola Regional District passed motions recently to ask the LTSA to put a moratorium on moving out documents.
Also, the two local MLAs, Peter Milobar and Todd Stone, as well as several area First Nations have voiced concerns of a lack of consultation on the plan to relocate documents.
