The Kamloops Film Festival will be looking for a new home with the closing of the Paramount Theatre at Fifth and Victoria.
Film Festival Executive Director Dusan Magdolen says the good news is they’ll be allowed to finish their current film series at Paramount Theatre on April 18.
“We know that they were looking at selling, where that’s at we’re not a 100 per cent sure, and what our future holds is a bit of a question mark,” he told Radio NL. “Thankfully, we get to finish our season out and then we have a few months to figure things out and see where we’re going to land.”
“Obviously, it’s a big impact, it’s our venue for the film festival, it’s our venue for the series.”
Magdolen adds they are open to moving some of their events to the Cineplex Theatre at Aberdeen Mall.
“There is a potential for the film series but there likely wouldn’t be a potential for the festival because, and this is just my understanding, they have sort of a blanket no weekend rental rule,” Magdolen added.
“The the festival runs across two weekends. It would be pretty tough to run the film festival without being able to book on the weekends.”
The Kamloops Film Festival has called the Paramount Theatre home since its inception in 1997.
