The largest study ever in BC on the mule deer is underway and one of the main focuses is the decline in their population. The mule deer is one of those animals that gives us a greater picture of what’s going on with several different eco-systems in the province.
In some parts of BC, like here in the Kamloops area, the mule deer population is strong, while in other areas the decline is up to 85 percent over the past two and a half decades.
Dr Adam Ford is heading the Southern Interior Mule Deer Project and he’s speaking on their preliminary findings at TRU this evening. “We’d like to see this research continue on and the monitoring of mule deer continue on in a more vigorous way than it has in the past few decades. One of the reasons why we can’t solve this problem or are in this situation right now is we need a better effort to understand what’s going on with British Columbia’s wildlife.”
The event gets underway tonight at the TRU Alumni Theatre at 7 PM
