Summer is on it’s way and it there’s one thing that can put a damper on the all great outdoor activities it’s mosquitos. The best way to deal with them is to stop them before they before there’s a problem. However a lot of people are concerned over the use of chemicals and pesticides.
As TNRD Environmental Service Technologist Martin Dickson explains the way they do it is much safer than it has been in the past. “That’s the coolest thing about the program is that we’re primarily a larvicide based control program. We use a product called VectoBac and the active ingredient is a protein that’s target specific so it doesn’t harm humans or animals it only harms the mosquitos who ingest it and it ruptures their gut so that they can’t emerge as adults.”
Dickson says technicians start to in early April and visit know sites weekly to stop things before it gets bad.
