Today is day one of work on Victoria Street West, starting at the east end near First Avenue.
A reminder that construction will be Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., with work at nights and on weekends, as needed.
Capital Projects Manager Darren Crundwell is asking drivers to be patient.
“Traffic is shut down on Victoria Street West between City Hall and Seymour,” he said. “It’s open to local traffic only and emergency services and transit.”
“Everybody has to detour up First Avenue and onto Seymour if they are heading westbound. So that’s the major change in the first phase.”
Crundwell says westbound transit and emergency vehicles will have priority access through the construction zone from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on weekdays.
“We’re trying to do as much as we can to make transit as efficient as possible and also emergency services obviously – police, fire, RCMP,” Crundwell added.
“They still will be, once they are through that first detour, they still will be in the regular construction traffic, but we’re hopeful that we can try and get them through.”
Extreme Excavating will not work on Good Friday this week, but will be working on the following Monday.
Phase One is scheduled to end in mid to late July.
