The owners of a new bus service through the Fraser Canyon say it’s important to make sure that the numerous new bus companies don’t step on each other toes.
Adventure Charters owner Janna Gertzen says the Passenger Transportation Board usually won’t issue overlapping licenses to different bus companies.
She notes they’ve been in contact with various other bus operators in BC, including EBus and Rider Express.
“And yeah, I think that everybody is kind of on the same page where we want to make a great grid where passengers can get where they need to go,” she said. “Greyhound had such a great network established, that it made it easy for everyone.”
“It’s a little bit harder for all of the smaller companies to come together and make that same network, but I think that we’re all working on it.”
Gertzen adds it all comes down to licensing.
“Typically, the Passenger Transportation Board won’t issue overlapping licenses very often, unless there’s an extreme need for service,” Gertzen added. “I think that everybody needs to have the opportunity, all of the other companies EBus, Rider Express etc.”
“They have licensing for a large chunk of the areas. The gap that we filled kind of connects into what they left open.”
Gertzen believes the gap they are filling through the Fraser Canyon will help connect people to other bus routes that have already been filled by other companies.
