Sun Peaks Council has given first and second reading to a rezoning application for a second cannabis store in the village.
The proposal is at 1160 Sun Peaks Road, as the municipality is considering stores on a case by case basis.
Councillor Mario Pozza says council will make a decision after a public hearing.
“They gave us all of the information that I that we needed to feel confident that we could go ahead and have that public input session,” he said.
“We want to make sure that the neighbours and the residents in the community are well aware of what’s going on and they have their opportunity to voice their opinion.”
An application for another cannabis store was given first reading in February, and Pozza says council hopes to have public hearings for both proposed cannabis stores at the same time.
“We can certainly make life easier for people,” he added.
“Rather than running two public forums on what the public really wants to have in the community, gathering all those people for one meeting is certainly easier than trying to do it on two separate dates.”
There is no date set yet for a public hearing in Sun Peaks.
Council has asked the developers of the first store for more information, including a traffic plan, which Pozza and his colleagues hope come before them before their next meeting on May 7.
