UPDATE –
Crews are making good progress on a wildfire, about 12 km south of Revelstoke.
The fire at its peak was 25 hectares in size, and it’s believed to be another human caused blaze.
Fire Information Officer Ashley Davidoff says the RCMP are investigating the fire.
“So today there was one three person BC Wildfire crew out there completing final patrols of the area,” she said. “It is considered under control.”
Davidoff adds there is some rain expected in the area today, and crews are hoping to classify the fire as extinguished after this weekend.
At the peak of the blaze, there were six BC wildfire firefighters attacking the fire, along with eight members of the Revelstoke fire department.
“Grass fires can tend to move quickly, but the only fuel is that grass layer,” Davidoff added said.
“The fuel underneath is still pretty wet at this time of the year, but it’s still important to be extremely careful if you are doing any burning.”
