The MLA for Kamloops South is lobbying the Ministries of Transportation and Forests on the issue of flooding in Cherry Creek.
Todd Stone says spring flooding over the last couple years has caused damage, washed out roads, and is a big headache to Cherry Creek locals.
Stone would like the province to fund a watershed study for the area to better understand what is going on.
“For potential future flood events and to prevent further property damage, these landowners are looking for the Forests Lands and Natural Resources Operations (FLNRO) ministry to step up and undertake a new watershed study for this area of Cherry Creek,” he said. “That’s so that these residents can have a much better sense of what to expect in future years.”
“There are a number of roads with culverts that MOTI is responsible for that are off of the Trans-Canada. This is likely not a challenge that will be addressed solely by one agency or one landowner.”
He added the flood concerns overlap between the land and the nearby Trans-Canada meaning the two ministries need to be at the table with residents and the TNRD.
