Local governments have been assured there would be viable internet connections at work camps along the Trans-Mountain pipeline route.
Thompson-Nicola Regional District director for Blue River Stephen Quinn had asked Trans-Mountain president Ian Anderson in person last month, while Anderson was presenting to the regional district board.
One of the five work camps would be in Blue River, and Quinn says the community has limited capacity for internet.
“It was something that I never thought about until just before that meeting. I do know that work camps have lots of guys who come in from work and get cleaned up and then they call home. So if you have 250 guys all of a sudden calling home, it may just squash our system here. That was the genesis of that question, and I think that answer was great,” he says.
The deadline for a decision from the federal government on whether to approve the Trans-Mountain pipeline expansion has been put off an extra month, now until June 22.
In the project is approved, Trans-Mountain will have work camps set up in Valemount, Blue River, Clearwater, Merritt and near Hope.
