Staff at the downtown BC Lottery Corporation headquarters are in for a good news, bad news situation according to the two Kamloops MLAs.
Kamloops North MLA Peter Milobar says the good news is that there will be some new staff coming to Kamloops.
“We’re very happy to hear that lotteries has agreed that they’ll expand their finance by 11 people in Kamloops, four in enforcement,” Milobar said.
“But they don’t have the space for the 11 in Kamloops at this point. They have to figure out how to reconfigure and make that work.”
Kamloops South MLA Todd Stone though adds the bad news is there is about to be some major shuffling at BCLC headquarters.
“The 500 or so employees of the corporation here in Kamloops, many of them are going to be asked to downsize to smaller work stations and potentially get ready to move into the warehouse,” Stone said.
“That is absolutely ridiculous.”
Stone says he cannot imagine how that news is going to go over among staff especially those headed into the basement.
BCLC Responds
The BC Lottery Corporation is responding to the two Kamloops MLAs over changes ahead for its downtown Kamloops headquarters staff.
BCLC officials confirm that a Partnerships B.C. report recommended building a new warehouse and renovating the existing structure for more office space.
But the corporation says they will not be doing that, adding both the MLAs were advised as such during their tour.
That said officials say re-configuring the work spaces and creating what “collaborative space” is on the table so BCLC can squeeze in more staff in Kamloops.
