The Marketing Manager at Sun Peaks Resort thinks the direct Kamloops to Toronto flight would be more successful in the winter.
Aidan Kelly says that flight brought in a number of visitors to Sun Peaks last summer, but adds there are numerous reasons why he believes it should be scheduled during ski season.
“Mostly, it’s due to demand that we see from Eastern Canada from Ontario and Quebec and also the connections that provides for the Eastern Seaboard and the US and then also in Europe,” he said.
“It’ll help everyone connecting through Toronto, if they had a direct flight into Kamloops.”
Kelly plans to keep lobbying for improved direct air access into Kamloops both in the summer and winter months.
“We’re open to any and all options. And I know that we have pretty close dialogue with the Kamloops Airport and with some other organizations,” Kelly added.
“We’re kind of working collectively on this issue on how do we climb the latter in terms of access and how do we make it better here at Sun Peaks and in Kamloops, and that also funnels into the larger region.”
It’s not just for incoming passengers, Kelly believes there will be demand from Kamloops residents in the winter months as well.
who says a winter flight would also mean easier access for Kamloops area people planning winter getaways.
“You know if you are a Kamloops resident and you can hop on a direct flight over to Toronto, that’s a big gateway for accessing the Caribbean and some of the sun vacations people form this part of the world like,” he said.
“So I think the traffic would be really strong both ways in the winter.”
This year, Air Canada has scheduled the direct Toronto flight on Thursday’s between July 4 and August 29.
