The MLA for the Kamloops-North Thompson says a lack of long-haul bus service through his riding needs to be addressed.
Greyhound cut its route along the Yellowhead Highway six months ago, and Peter Milobar says a plan to fill that route needs to be made a priority.
“The province needs to step up and start finding a way to move this forward. Either by incentivizing a private operator or replicating what the BC Liberals did up in the north, and start to get more of a BC Bus service going, that was continued on and expanded under this government,” Milobar says.
“We’ve also heard from a great many people that ride-hailing services up the valley would actually be well-received, in terms of people looking for ways to legally be able to help transport people back and forth on smaller run trips.”
The Ministry of Transportation now has a two-year agreement to split costs with the federal government to fill rural bus routes left behind by Greyhound.
However, it says right now there is no formal plan to fill routes that remain without buses.
