A day after raising the idea of adding a second refinery in the province, Premier John Horgan acknowledges B.C. may not be the best-suited place to build one.
“Most refineries are usually close to the source of the product. I would suggest Alberta has more expertise in this area and it might be a better place for new refining capacity. But clearly, the challenge today, with prices being what they are, it’s too much demand and not enough supply. And those challenges come from a variety of places.”
Horgan again encouraged entrepreneur and newspaper mogul David Black to bring forward his proposal for a refinery in Kitimat and find out, through the regulatory process, if that is a viable option.
He adds that a 30-cent increase in gas prices in the last three months appears to be a result of gouging by the oil companies.
