The GoFundMe page for the Murray Church rebuild in the Merritt area hasn’t exactly taken off.
If the church is to rise from the ashes, the Trinity United Church board hopes to raise $200,000.
With just about $1,800 raised so far, Board Chair Linda Baird was asked if they are surprised by the slow pace.
“Not really because we didn’t get on it right away after the fire. I think that was part of it.”
Baird says people can also donate directly to the “Murray Church Project Account” set up at CIBC or mail in cheques indicating the money is for the Murray Church.
“We do have a lot of people that have said they will volunteer,” Baird added. “Like one guy said he will come and lift the bell, another person has said they will do the wiring.”
“The people that replaced the stained glass window indicated that they will do the stained glass, if and when it’s needed.”
However, Baird noted she wasn’t immediately sure how much money was raised via the cheques or at CIBC branches.
The church was the oldest building in the Nicola Valley before it was destroyed by arson in January.
