Police are looking for any suspects after five break-ins this month at the Pritchard Transfer Station.
Thompson-Nicola Regional District environmental services supervisor Jamie Vieira says break-ins are common at transfer stations but five in one month is a rarity.
He says items thieves are breaking in for are not worth much.
“A car battery’s worth $5 or $10 bucks at a recycler, and if you’ve ever tried to carry a car battery and climb over a fence, it’s not an easy task to do. So I’m surprised that people bother, but nonetheless it is a common thing that people are breaking in to steal,” Vieira says.
“We already have sight lighting and video cameras on site, so we’ve been able to provide some footage for the RCMP to help in their investigation. We feel strongly it is probably the same person, so the RCMP can identify that person and hopefully that will put an end to the damage that is happening there.”
Vieira says the real cost for the TNRD is to repair property damage after those break-ins, which he says generally costs $500 to $1,000 dollars each time.
He says the none of the buildings at the property, located at 1595 Martin Prairie Road, have been damaged during any of the incidents.
