The BC Wildfire Service says two new fires started in the Merritt area yesterday are being held.
Fire information officer Taylor MacDonald says the larger of those fires is 16 hectares near the Nicola River, west of Merritt.
“We had 10 BC Wildfire Service personnel attend the incident yesterday, and we have six personnel headed out to the incident today. We are assisting the Lower Nicola Band with it.”
MacDonald says the other fire is one hectare in size and located near the Coldwater Indian Band, near the Coquihalla south of Merritt.
“It was reported at one hectare and we had three wildfire personnel head to the incident and we have six personnel heading out to the incident today.”
She says no structures are at risk by either fire, and says both are suspected to be human caused.
