About 40 high school students are striking in front of Kamloops City Hall today to demand action to address climate change.
Aliza Smith says a number of drivers have been honking in support.
“We are part of the global Friday’s for future movement inspired by activist Greta Thunberg from Sweden and so on Friday’s we are striking globally and nationally,” she said.
“This is actually a national strike to protest climate inaction from our governments and to show that the youth is here to promote this movement of climate action.”
Smith says the students also delivered a letter to city hall today outlining their ideas to tackle climate change.
“There is not enough awareness in the community about what we can be doing as individuals and within our own municipality,” she added. “There are plenty of areas in which we can improve with our plastics and single waste use.”
She says the support they have received has been amazing and Kamloops can expect more of this in the future.
