Kamloops councillor Bill Sarai has been acclaimed to be a director for on a board representing Southern Interior municipalities.
Sarai was acclaimed yesterday during the Southern Interior Local Government Association convention.
“After I got voted in the civic election in Kamloops, it came to my attention that at (SILGA), we haven’t been represented for a number of years. And I think it’s very important for someone from our councillor to be a director at large, to voice our concerns.”
He says his position on the SILGA board should have some synergies with councillor Arjun Singh being the president of the Union of B.C. Municipalities, as members at SILGA vote on resolutions to be brought the UBCM in the fall.
“I really hope so, and Arjun Singh’s doing a great job. For the last three days here in Penticton at the SILGA convention, our whole council has noticed how much respect and honour he holds. So yes, I think having him is an advantage for SILGA and for the City of Kamloops.”
Sarai was one of seven delegates acclaimed as SILGA directors. Logan Lake mayor Robin Smith also will be on that board for a second straight year. The other five directors are councillors from Salmon Arm (2), Vernon, Coldstream and Penticton.
SILGA represents 37 local governments with approximately 225 delegates.
