A lawsuit has been filed against a Turtle Valley resident as people there continue to block a plan to move biosolids coming from Kamloops.
Arrow Transportation filed the suit on Friday which names Connie Seaward, who is involved in a blockade that has now been set up for eight days.
Also named as defendants in the lawsuit are “all other persons unknown to the applicant occupying, obstructing, blocking, physically impeding or delaying access, at or in the vicinity of the area.”
Seaward says the residents will continue to oppose having 23,000 tonnes of biosolids moved to a private property in their community.
“We’re not an unreasonable community, we’re all farmers. We’re all smart enough to understand waste disposal and pollutants in soil. So if you can show us the test results for that, then we’ll move. So instead they chose to sue me and go for an injunction to have us moved out of here, rather than test the material and show us what’s in it. So it’s just quite ridiculous at this point.”
Arrow was doing prep work before the blockade was set up, and the company says it will do environmental testing before any biosolids are moved in. It has a two-year contract with the City of Kamloops to move 35,000 tonnes of biosolids out of the city’s sewage treatment plant.
