A shortage of rental cars at YKA has the Managing Director of the Kamloops Airport a little perplexed.
Ed Ratuski understands the lack of rental car options reflects badly on the airport.
“This is a busy time. A lot of the vehicles with our operators were booked and tied up for a certain event,” he says. “They do, for the most part, just meet the requirements of their scheduled service where they have reservations in place.”
Sharon Gregson took to twitter saying she had a booking, but the rental car company didn’t have a vehicle for her when she got to Kamloops on Tuesday.
It was the second time in the not so distant past where a complaint about a lack of rental cars at the airport was made on social media.
Ratuski adds it’s a good idea to ensure that all reservations – including vehicles – are done well ahead of when you actually need one.
“It gives us an opportunity to help the travelling public know that the airport is getting busier and they need to, just like if they were flying into another site, to make sure their travel expectations are met.”
However, he understands that at times, all of the rental cars at YKA might be tied up because of excessive demand, but says the car rental companies are doing their best to fulfill their bookings.
He says the shortage of vehicles is not an issue airport staff can control, because they do not directly rent out the vehicles.
Wow! #Kamloops you have a serious shortage of car rentals. Even booking ahead with @Budget and I’m waiting for a taxi at the airport #disappointed
