After months of silence the Land Title Survey Authority seems to finally be reaching out to Kamloops stakeholders on the issue of removing land title records from the city.
The decision made last October was not publicly announced until late last month well after a series of news stories and demands for consultations when word leaked out.
Kamloops mayor Ken Christian, one of those not terribly happy about the decision, says the Land Title Authority has finally been in touch.
“Yes I have. As recently as Wednesday morning I head from Connie Fair who is the CEO of B.C. Land Titles and we have set up a meeting. It just came in and I will be meeting with them as Council has requested.”
Has there been any word from the minister responsible Doug Donaldson?
“We asked for both of them and so far it is the CEO of B.C. Land Titles who has reached out and if there are lingering questions after that. I know when I spoke to Doug Donaldson he said this is a crown corporation and best talk directly to them first off.”
Donaldson has promised to ensure the land title authority carries out the proper consultations before removing the records.
The LTSA has already begun to remove land title records from Kamloops to Victoria.
The move will mean job losses here for a number of private businesses providing records research services and in the legal community.
