A woman who lost her husband in a crash with a semi truck in 2017 wants to see stricter rules for new truckers.
Pattie Fair wants to see mandatory national training for new truckers as well as graduated licensing.
She says the crash involving the Humboldt Broncos team bus really hit home. “It was heartbreaking. It’s so unnecessary.”
“You know if our class one licensing system was modified and some proper training was put into place these crashes wouldn’t be happening across Canada and you know today our system is no different than it was when my husband was killed or when the Humboldt tragedy happened.”
Fair would also like to see the trucking industry deemed a skilled trade by the national occupational classification code.
She also want’s training facilities to be audited – to see trainees are receiving adequate training.
The on line petition has over 7,000 signatures and she intends to take it to the House of Commons.
The petition will be up until Tuesday on the Humboldt Broncos website.
