A man wanted by the Kamloops for charges from 2015 is back in the city to face charges after revealing his location indirectly to police.
Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says Jessie Dean Kowalchuk wrote to a local media outlet, telling them the RCMP had “missed the ball” because he was now in the Edmonton area.
“Kamloops RCMP approached BC Prosecution Service and had his warrant extended to Alberta,” she said. “Then on May 10, Kowalchuk was checked by the Edmonton Police Department, who found that he had outstanding warrants from BC, and he was then remanded into custody and then transported back to Kamloops to face these charges.”
Shelkie says Kowalchuk made it easy for police to track him down.
“It’s important that people who are wanted realize they can’t relocate to avoid their legal issues,” she added. “Sooner or later, the police will find them.”
He was in a Kamloops court room today to face charges in three separate files.
