A wildfire that sparked east of Kamloops over the weekend is now under control.
Wildfire Information Officer Hannah Swift says the fire is still mapped at 19 hectares.
“We have hand guard around the entire fire perimeter, and there is no further growth to be expected,” she said. “The fire perimeter is completely contained by both hand guard and preexisting barriers.”
Swift says the same 18 personnel who were at the fire yesterday will be on scene today putting out any remaining hot spots and dealing with any smoke that might arise.
As for reports of smoke in the area east of Kamloops?
“From what I have been updated on, those 18 personnel, if the smoke is coming from that fire, they have it under control and they are making good progress, and they’ll be working to put out any of those smoke spots,” added Swift.”
Kamloops Fire says they haven’t been called to any fires in that area today.
The cause is still being investigated, and Swift says they still don’t know what sparked the fire on Sunday.
