Kamloops RCMP are looking for a teenage boy who may have intentionally started a grass fire on the North Shore yesterday.
Police say a passerby told them that a teenager start a fire along the sidewalk on Singh Street, just south of Greenfield Avenue.
Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the teen ran away after the fire started, around 5:20 p.m.
“Kamloops Fire Rescue attended and immediately extinguished the fire, and luckily it was contained to just the grass along the sidewalk and there was no damage to any other property,” she said.
The suspect was wearing a black baseball cap, black tank top, grey sweat pants and he was carrying a black back pack at the time.
“Fires cause extreme damage to property,” Shelkie added. “They can spread very quickly at this time of year, so everybody should be extremely careful themselves and report to us any suspicious activity.”
As for if there have been several complaints about intentional fire starts so far?
“Fortunately, this was the only one that has been reported to us in recent times,” she said.
If you have any information about the teenager in question, contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
