The Customer Care and Patrol Team is now operating for the summer on the North Shore as of today.
The program will operate until the end of September, after it received a $25,000-dollar grant from the city to run for a second straight year.
Councillor Mike O’Reilly says the CAP Team gives a boost to the Tranquille corridor.
“It was a pilot project last year and there were fantastic results where they partnered with the downtown (Business Improvement Association). And you talk about tourism, but there is talks of a new hotel going up on Tranquille Road. We’re obviously seeing I think between 750 and 1,000 units being built along the Tranquille Corridor. (The CAP Team) is just that added safety and security for people,” O’Reilly says.
“I’m just ecstatic to see the CAP Team expanding. The model has proven successful downtown, and now that we’re able to put it on the North Shore there’s no reason why this can’t be looked at in other business areas of the city, if needed, in future years.”
The program sees young adults do community work and serve as embassadors for the area.
