The City of Kamloops will be spending just under a quarter million dollars to expand bus service next year.
City council approved a memorandum of understanding to commit nearly $246,000 for bus service expansion in next year’s budget. Of that spending, more than $223,000 will be used to add 4,500 hours of service, which will include putting two new busses on the road.
Engineering manager Deven Matkowski says that money will be a small ripple in the grand scheme of Kamloops bus service.
“We have about a million hours in the system right now. Most people aren’t going to see a big change, you will see it more around the fringes… you might see that the frequencies go from 20 to 18 minutes, where the bus comes a little more frequent.”
Matkowski says just under $23,000 will be to expand the hours for the Handi-Dart service on weekdays.
The changes will come into effect in September of 2020. Matkowski says the city will also be adding 3,000 hours of bus service in September of this year.
