The Thompson-Nicola Regional District is planning to do flood mapping in nearly a dozen areas.
Communications manager Michelle Nordstrom says the regional district has been given $150,000 from the province to do mapping across the Thompson river watershed.
“There’s actually 11 areas we’re going to be looking at within the TNRD. So we’re looking at the Thompson rivers, the North and South Thompsons, Nicola and Coldwater rivers, Chase Creek, Savona, the Thompson River in the Savona and Ashcroft area, the Bonaparte, Cherry Creek and Spius Creek.”
Nordstrom says the TNRD will be contracting the Fraser Basin Council Society to do the flood mapping.
“It builds upon some previous work that they have been doing around flood risk assessment and mitigation. So the mapping is kind of the next phase for them.”
The provincial funding provided to the regional district was part $3 million dollars the province announced today for 22 local governments, province-wide, to do projects related to flood mitigation.
