The remaining illegal cannabis storefronts still open in Kamloops have all now been asked for compliance by the province.
The city’s business license inspector Dave Jones says the newly-formed provincial task force on cannabis visited the city two weeks ago.
“I wasn’t aware that they had visited town (when they did), but they visited three illegal stores that were in operation. And again the provincial mandate is to educate, inform people and ask for voluntary compliance. So I know they went and visited and introduced themselves. Their job is to request voluntary compliance, and to do the right thing and ask for a provincial license application.”
Jones says that was the second visit to Kamloops by the task force; he says he also met with them well over a month ago before they were fully in operation.
“It was more for information. They still hadn’t quite been up-and-running because they’re working out of Kelowna so they have a big area. So that first visit was just more of an introduction, meet and greet. And then we drove around town and we just kind of reviewed all the previous ones and where the ones exist now, legal and non-legal.”
Jones says there are now only two illegal dispensaries open in Kamloops compared to 13 in the fall.
