Two men and two women were arrested in four separate incidents over the May Long weekend after allegedly stealing one of the Kamloops RCMP’s bait items.
Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the bait program is being expanded to include vehicles, bicycles as well as packages.
“Bikes have become an item that are stolen more frequently so we wanted to put them into the program as well, and then theft from vehicles has also become a real issue as well,” she said. “That’s when we put the GPS tracking devices into different types of packages.”
Police note the items are all equipped with GPS tracking which can monitor the speed, direction, and location of the item after it is stolen.
Among the people arrested are a 55-year-old man and a 28-year-old man, and two women, one 23-years-old and the other 22-years-old.
Shelkie says police want would be thieves to know that there are bait items on the streets of Kamloops in the hopes of preventing crimes from happening.
