Game on.
The Conservative incumbent is welcoming Terry Lake to the federal election race this fall in the Kamloops Thompson Cariboo.
But while Cathy McLeod issued that welcome she wasted no time firing the first salvo of the campaign.
“I welcome him to the race and I can turn around right now and say but why would you ever join the Liberals? He talked last night about balanced budgets and they have not committed to balancing the budget until 2040. He talked about the climate being important and they have a climate plan that is not even going to make the Paris targets.”
She says “they have a tax plan but they certainly don’t have a climate change plan.”
McLeod says deficit situation is very troubling even though the economy is steaming along at a good clip.
“Yes we have had good economic times but any government knows that when you have good economic times, that is what Paul Martin did, that is what Jean Chretien did, that is what Stephen Harper did, they paid down the debt during good economic times. So when the serious troubles came along there was some room to actually stimulate the economy. What we have right now is stimulation without the need for the stimulation.”
She says the Tories will roll out a climate change plan “in a few short weeks.”
