A man was airlifted from the Spences Bridge area to hospital after falling over a cliff yesterday afternoon.
Details about how the man got there remain unclear, but Kamloops Search and Rescue crews were called to assist BC EHS around 3:30 p.m. yesterday.
Spokesperson Jenn Stahn says the man was awake when he was handed over to the air ambulance.
“We were called in because the terrain was quite rough. We had to actually use a stretcher with a special wheel that we have,” she said. “In the Spences Bridge area, you are looking at a lot of rocky terrain, a lot of large sagebrush that kind of stuff that they were having to navigate while they were bringing the patient down.”
Stahn says paramedics at the scene were able to treat the patient, but they were unable to pull him to safety, hence the call to KSAR.
“They dealt with all of the injuries prior to us getting there, and got him ready in that way for us,” Stahn added. We didn’t have to deal with any of the first aid aspect of it.”
In all, 15 KSAR volunteers responded, some of whom were flown to the scene to speed up the rescue process, which took just under an hour.
