The leader of the upstart Peoples Party of Canada swung through Kamloops today and his former Conservative colleague, and the region’s incumbent MP, is not throwing out the welcome mat.
Cathy McLeod says the things Maxime Bernier is saying and posting to social media is “absolutely outrageous” and not in line with the Bernier she used to know.
Is McLeod worried about a threat on her party’s right?
“I think he is currently polling in the 1% range so they have some support. I have been surprised at Max because Max hasn’t, in my opinion, been true to who Max is in terms of some of the things he is coming out with. I sat with him for over a year and we had many conversations over that year in the House and certainly he is not the Max that I knew for sure.”
McLeod wouldn’t directly answer when asked if she is worried about a vote split on the right in this riding saying instead all she can do is campaign hard and work for every vote.
Bernier held some meet and greets while swinging through Kamloops en route to Kelowna where he will spend the next couple of days.
He is also expected to announce his party’s interior candidates for this fall’s federal election while in Kelowna.
