BC Transit’s request for proposal on the way they’ll be collecting fares is now closed.
It won’t be like the compass card that Translink on the coast uses as Communications Manager Jonathon Dyck explains, “We would like some that could be an account based system at first, where you get something on your phone where you tap it when you get on the bus or you scan it like you do at the airport and you get on the bus that way with your ticket.”
“The second phase of it would be looking at debit and credit cards and being able to get on the bus tapping those systems.”
Dyck says now the task at hand is finding a vendor they can work with.
They’re hoping to have the system up and running within the next year.
