The leader of the official opposition has a message for the Premier and his court battle to oppose the Trans Mountain pipeline “it is over.”
Andrew Wilkinson says the province will have a very tough time making a case to the Supreme Court of Canada after today’s decisive BC Appeal Court ruling.
“Any lawyer pawing through that 69 page judgement looks for the link where you could find reasons to appeal. This is a five-nothing decision. It is black and white. It is a very clear according to this court and if they are going off to the Supreme Court of Canada they are probably going to get spanked again at our expense, drag things out, make enemies, slow things down, and drive up the price of gasoline.”
Wilkinson says with a five-nothing ruling with no dissenting judgement suggests any appeal to Ottawa is “very difficult work.”
He says it is time for the Premier to do the right thing.
“He has just been slapped down five-nothing by the British Columbia Court of Appeal it is time for him to eat some humble pie, get on a plane to Edmonton, and make peace with Alberta.”
Wilkinson says it is the taxpayers taking it on the chin in legal costs for this losing effort.
“This will be well into the half million to million dollar range already. If they do end up taking it to the Supreme Court of Canada it is probably another half million to million dollars down the drain.”
He says the provincial government is “being pretty irresponsible” in being part of a bigger country as they spend their time with what he called “bogus lawsuits” to antagonize our neighbours and annoying the federal government.
