As work through the Victoria Street construction zone moves to a 24 hour schedule, there is some concern about noise late at night affecting area residents.
Capital Projects Manager Darren Crundwell says increasing the hours of work is not a decision they took lightly.
He says the quicker the projected the completed, the better it will be for Kamloops as a whole.
“There are trains there though 24 hours a day, right in the same vicinity as the construction traffic. We all know that trains can be quite noisy,’ he said. “I’m not saying that made our decision easy. It didn’t.”
He says the 24 hour construction schedule will help speed the project timeline up as well a few months to the summer of 2020.
“We want to do everything we can to work with residents there and keep them informed,” Crundwell added. “It is in the best interest of the public and the project, and the quicker we get it done, the less they have to deal with it.”
Crundwell says increasing the hours of work is not a decision that staff and the contractors took lightly, but says it was part of their plan all along.
During daytime hours, there will be two lanes of traffic, one in each direction, while a decision on a switch to single-lane, alternating traffic during the evening will be made by Extreme Excavating as the night work progresses.
