Police say a driver was clocked doing double the posted speed limit on the Coquihalla earlier this month.
RCMP Traffic Services spokesperson Cpl. Mike Halskov says on May 12 between Merritt and Hope, a driver was caught going 240 kilometres per hour in a 120 km/h zone.
Halskov says the driver claimed there was a problem with his accelerator, however he was still ticketed for excessive speeding.
That resulted in a ticket of $483 dollars, three points and a seven-day impoundment subject to a vehicle safety inspection.
Halskov says this is high risk driving month in B.C., says “police cannot stress enough the dangers of excessive speeding.”
“Slowing down and obeying speed limits significantly reduces the risk of serious injury or death and gives drivers added time to perceive and react to the unexpected.”
