Drivers travelling through Falkland won’t be able to fill up at the town’s only gas station next month.
The gas bar at the Petro Canada along Highway 97 will be closed for nearly four weeks, from next Monday until June 28th, while the underground gas tanks are replaced.
Falkland area director for the Columbia-Shuswap regional district, Rene Talbot, says there was a similar closure because of renovations about six months ago.
“I know not that long ago they redid the whole gas station, the building. And for about three weeks, there was no gas in Falkland. And everybody was stopping at the pub to see if they could get some gasoline. So it’s just getting the word out there to people.”
Talbot says locals can adjust more easily to the closure and says the biggest concern is to inform the travelling public. The gas station is the only one for a stretch of about 100 kilometres between Kamloops and Vernon.
