The Kamloops Chamber has spearheaded another push for the province to end the time change.
At its annual general meeting, the BC Chamber of Commerce passed a policy to ask for collaboration from the B.C. government to end time change.
Kamloops Chamber executive director Acacia Pangilinan says this was the second time the chamber proposed this policy, and says eliminating the time change would be positive for business and for people’s health.
“It was brought forward in 2016, and because there had been no action on it we really wanted to make sure that it moved forward again,” Pangilinan says. “There’s starting to be movement on it but we’re not quite there yet.”
The campaign to end the time change in B.C. was started by Kamloops residents Tara Holmes and Bob Dieno.
The B.C. government could scrap the time change on its own, but Premier John Horgan has said it is crucial that governments in the three west coast U.S. states are all on board first. So far, Washington state has passed a law to stay on daylight savings time year-round while California has began the process to bring in the same legislation.
